New HeadWrappers workshops launching in Newcastle
April 13, 2026We are so pleased to announce the launch of our HeadWrappers workshops at Maggie’s Centre, Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, expanding access to specialist cancer support services across the North East.
From 21st May, we’ll be supporting you with hair loss during cancer treatment to feel more like yourself again. You’ll leave with new skills, a little more confidence and a complimentary gift bag with headwear and scarfs – a small gesture from us to support you through your cancer journey.
Located beside the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, Maggie’s Newcastle provides a warm and welcoming environment for those affected by cancer. Building on the success of existing Skincare & Makeup workshops already delivered at the centre, the introduction of HeadWrappers sessions marks a natural and meaningful expansion of support available to the local community.
Each workshop is designed to provide practical guidance and gentle reassurance, helping people manage the visible impact of treatment in a supportive and understanding space. Led by trained volunteers, sessions offer both expert advice and the opportunity to connect with others going through similar experiences.
The new service will initially run on a bi-monthly basis, supporting up to 12 people per session, with a dedicated team of volunteers already in place to deliver the workshops.
The launch also reflects the continued demand for accessible, community-based support services in the region, with thousands of people undergoing cancer treatment locally each year.
Karen Verrill, Centre Head at Maggie’s Newcastle, shares:
“We are really excited to be hosting the launch of HeadWrappers workshops in our beautiful Centre. They will be a welcome addition to our comprehensive programme of support available to anyone affected by cancer. We know this new initiative will be of benefit to many people facing the very real worries around coping with hair loss as a result of cancer treatment.”
Tess Picken, Regional Manager, adds:
“Launching our HeadWrappers service at Maggie’s Newcastle feels really special to us. Through our weekly skincare and makeup sessions, we’ve built a wonderful relationship, and now, with a new team of dedicated volunteers, we’re proud to offer more support to women facing the challenges of hair loss in an even more personal way.”
Workshops are of course free to attend and can be booked directly here.
